Abstract
This paper introduces sedat, an open-source tool for techno-economic evaluation of solar-powered desalination technologies and region selection. Developed in response to a US DOE call, sedat integrates GIS data with Python-based models to simulate energy generation and water production, offering insights into plant performance and optimization suggestions. The paper details the tool's development, presents example results from the US Southwest, and discusses future model development.
