This scoping review examines the effectiveness of incentives in promoting the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices and their impact on environmental, economic, and productivity outcomes. Analyzing nearly 18,000 papers, the study finds that programs linked to short-term economic benefits have higher adoption rates. Long-term adoption is strongly motivated by perceived benefits for farms or the environment. Technical assistance and extension services are crucial for promoting sustainable practices. Policy effectiveness hinges on considering the target population's characteristics and trade-offs between economic, environmental, and social outcomes.
