This randomized controlled trial (RCT) assessed a Stepped-Care intervention (predictive analytics plus tailored interventions) on healthcare costs for older adults using Personal Emergency Response Systems (PERS). 370 patients (aged 65+) with mid-range prior-year healthcare costs were randomized. The intervention group (IG) showed a 31% lower annualized inpatient cost per patient ($8,100 vs. $11,800, p=0.02) and a 20% total annualized cost reduction ($14,200 vs. $17,700, p=0.04) compared to the control group (CG). Outpatient costs were similar between groups. The findings suggest that combining predictive analytics with tailored interventions holds promise for reducing healthcare costs in older adults.
