Abstract
This paper investigates the reception of Chinese television dramas (C-dramas) streamed overseas on YouTube and Rakuten Viki using a corpus-based approach. It identifies the top ten most popular C-dramas and analyzes user-generated reviews and comments. Findings reveal a preference for contemporary, especially modern romance dramas; primary concerns revolve around storylines, actors/characters, and subtitles; and subtitling concerns fall into distinct themes reflecting international viewership needs. The study aims to improve C-drama translation and reception, expanding the export market.
