Abstract
This study examines how the image of China has been portrayed in films produced in mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong from 1949–2018 using a postcolonial theoretical perspective. We analyzed 1047 films from IMDb, focusing on mentions of China or Chinese people, specific topic treatment, and positive/negative attitudes. Using word embedding technology (Word2vec) and topic modeling (LDA), we explored transformations in the representation of China and the sociocultural factors influencing these changes.
