The Jishishan earthquake (Ms 6.2) on December 18, 2023, triggered a large landslide-mudflow in Jintian Village, China. The study investigates the causal mechanisms of this event, revealing a new failure mode dominated by dual liquefaction layers (loess and sand). The synergistic effects of geomorphology, tectonics, and human activities (specifically, agricultural irrigation) are highlighted as crucial factors. The findings underscore the need for urgent landslide-potential assessments in similar river terrace irrigation areas within tectonically active regions.
