The PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty) Translation Division of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) organizes a Fellowship Program aimed at providing training and on-the-job experience at an international organization. This program is designed for assistant terminologists, translators, post-editors, translation technologists, and technical specialists.

Participants of the fellowship program can expect the following benefits:
- Training and Guidance: Staff of the PCT Translation Division at WIPO provide training and guidance throughout the fellowship period in Geneva. Fellowships typically last for at least three months.
- Monthly Stipend: Fellows receive a stipend of 5,000 Swiss francs (taxable).
- Medical Cover: Medical coverage is provided to fellows.
- Travel and Visa Assistance: WIPO assists with travel and visa arrangements.
- On-Site Fellowship: Fellowships cannot be carried out remotely.
✅ Eligibility Criteria
For the Terminology Fellowship
- Candidates must be pursuing or have recently graduated from an advanced degree program (Master’s, Doctorate, or equivalent) in terminology, translation, a related linguistic discipline, or a technical field with strong linguistic ability.
- Prior experience in applied terminology is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Applicants must work in their native language.
- Applications are invited from native speakers of the following languages:
- Arabic
- Chinese
- German
- Japanese
- Korean
- Portuguese
- Russian
- Spanish
- Candidates must also have excellent knowledge of English.
For the Translation Fellowship
- Candidates must be pursuing or have recently graduated from an advanced degree program (Master’s, Doctorate, or equivalent) in translation, terminology, a related linguistic discipline, or a technical field with strong linguistic ability.
- Prior experience in technical translation is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Applicants must translate into their native language.
- Applications are requested for the following language combinations:
- Japanese to English
- Korean to English
For the Post-Editing Fellowship
- Candidates must be pursuing or have recently graduated from an advanced degree program (Master’s, Doctorate, or equivalent) in translation/post-editing, terminology, a related linguistic discipline, or a technical field with strong linguistic ability.
- Prior experience in technical translation/post-editing is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Applicants must post-edit in their native language (target language).
- Applications are requested for the following language combinations:
- Chinese to English
- English to French
For the Translation Technology Fellowship
- Candidates must be pursuing or have recently graduated from an advanced degree program (Master’s, Doctorate, or equivalent) in translation technology, translation, or a related linguistic discipline including a translation technology component.
- Alternatively, candidates may hold a degree in a technical field such as computational linguistics, information technology, or artificial intelligence.
- Prior experience in translation technology is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Applicants must work in English or French.
For the Technical Specialist Fellowship
- Candidates must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in a technical or scientific field (e.g., engineering, textiles, mining, telecommunications).
- Demonstrated experience in industry or as a researcher is required.
- Applicants must have a high level of linguistic ability in English and a second language, preferably one of the following:
- Arabic
- Chinese
- French
- German
- Japanese
- Korean
- Portuguese
- Russian
- Spanish
