Opportunity Overview

The University of Bonn invites excellent researchers from all disciplines to Bonn for short stays of up to 12 days. This program is designed to foster academic collaboration and engagement with the University of Bonn.

📚 About the Fellowship

This grant program aims to invite outstanding researchers from all areas of specialization to spend a short period at the University of Bonn. The fellowship seeks to:

  • Involve fellows in Bonn’s academic life as much as possible.
  • Make fellows visible to the academic public through activities such as public lectures, seminars, or colloquiums.
  • Open up opportunities for future collaboration between the fellows and the University of Bonn.

Preference Will Be Given To:

  • Scholars from strategic partner universities and universities in priority countries for international collaboration.

🏆 Benefits of the Fellowship

The funding covers the following:

  • Travel allowance for the fellow (depending on the country of origin).
  • Daily allowance of €160 for the fellow (up to 12 days, including the day of arrival and departure).
  • Material expenses for events organized by the hosting institute (up to €500 per proposal), including:
    • Catering costs (up to €50 per guest / €40 for university members).
    • Funds for public relations and outreach activities.

Important Dates:

  • Fellows must begin their stay between January 1, 2026, and December 31, 2026.
  • The funding must be fully spent by December 31, 2026.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

The fellowship is open to:

  • Post-doctoral scholars and experienced faculty who research and/or teach abroad at a university or research institute.
  • Researchers with a strong international reputation in their field of research.
  • Applicants who are invited by a host from the University of Bonn. Applications can only be submitted by members of the University.

📋 Selection Criteria

The selection process will consider the following:

  1. Scientific reputation of the fellows in their areas of specialization.
  2. The fellows’ contribution to academic life in Bonn, such as through public lectures, seminars, or colloquiums.
  3. The expected long-term impact of the stay and a plan to further develop collaboration between the fellow and the host institute in Bonn.

📝 Application Process

Required Documents:

  1. Online form.
  2. Project description (PDF, no more than 6 pages, plus the fellow’s declaration of consent), including:
    • Planned time period for the fellow’s visit (month).
    • Reasons for inviting the fellow, particularly their key research accomplishments and international reputation.
    • Overview of existing collaboration (if applicable).
    • Plan for integrating the fellow into Bonn’s academic life during their stay.
    • Description of the expected short- or long-term outcomes of the stay, including goals for further collaboration.
    • Fellow’s informal declaration of consent to the application.
  3. CV of the fellow (PDF).
  4. Signed Invitation Letter from the host at the University of Bonn (PDF).
  5. Financing plan (use the provided Excel template).
