TWAS-CUI Postgraduate Fellowship Programme 2026
The TWAS-COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) Fellowship Programme offers postgraduate research fellowships to young scientists from developing countries (excluding Pakistan) who wish to pursue a PhD in natural or social sciences.
π About the Programme
The TWAS-CUI Postgraduate Fellowship Programme is designed to support young scientists from developing countries in advancing their academic and research careers. The fellowship is hosted by COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) and sponsored by The World Academy of Science (TWAS).
π Benefits of the Fellowship
- Monthly Stipend: CUI will provide a monthly stipend to cover living costs such as food, accommodation, and health insurance.
Note: The stipend is not convertible into foreign currency.
β Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be nationals of a developing country (other than Pakistan).
- Must not be on-site in Pakistan.
- Must not hold any visa for temporary or permanent residency in Pakistan or any developed country.
- Hold an MSc degree (with research) in a field of natural sciences.
- If applying in a field of eligible social sciences, hold an MSc degree in social sciences.
- Be a maximum of 35 years old by 31 December 2026.
- Provide evidence of English proficiency if the medium of education was not English.
- Commit to returning to their home country upon completion of the fellowship.
- Must not take up other assignments during the fellowship period.
- Be financially responsible for any accompanying family members or delays in completing the fellowship.
Additional Requirements for Full-Time Fellowship Applicants:
- Must be willing to register at CUI, Pakistan.
- Hold a Masterβs degree or equivalent with:
- A thesis of 6 credit hours.
- A minimum CGPA of 3.0/4.0 or 60% marks.
- No "D" grades throughout the academic career.
- Pass one of the following:
- GRE (Subject) test as per the policy of the Higher Education Commission, Pakistan (HEC).
- Graduate Assessment Test (GAT Subject) managed by the National Testing Service, Pakistan (NTS), within the first semester of studies at CUI, with a minimum score of 60.
- Apply online for admission at CUI International Admissions Portal:

- Select the option "CUI-TWAS fellowship."
- Submit scanned copies of all academic certificates (transcripts and degrees).
- If accepted, candidates will receive an Acceptance Letter from CUI and must then apply via the TWAS online portal for the fellowship.
- Provide reference letters on letter-headed paper, signed, and submitted via the online portal.

- No sandwich PhD option is available for the 2026 call.
- The call for applications is open until 15 June 2026.
- Applicants must submit an Acceptance Letter from CUI when applying or by the deadline at the latest.
Note: Applications without preliminary acceptance will not be considered for selection. - Reference letters must:
- Be on letter-headed paper.
- Be signed.
- Be submitted via the online portal only.
