The Artists Association of Nantucket is now accepting applications for The Hale Master of Fine Art Residency Program 2026. This program offers a unique opportunity for artists to immerse themselves in the vibrant year-round art community of Nantucket.

🌟 About the Residency

The Nantucket AIR (Artists in Residence) program provides residencies for artists to:

  • Reflect, restore, and revitalize their art practice.
  • Explore Nantucket’s natural beauty.
  • Engage with the island's dynamic art community.

💰 Benefits

Selected artists will receive:

  • $500 toward travel expenses.
  • A $2,000 stipend for materials and living expenses.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for this residency, applicants must:

  • Be artists who have recently graduated (within the last 5 years) or are currently enrolled in an MFA graduate program.
  • Have work that explores aesthetic beauty.
  • Be seeking a month-long residency focused solely on their art practice, with no expectations to teach, exhibit, or present work.

📝 Application Process

Applicants are required to submit the following:

  1. Current CV/Resume (maximum 3 pages).
  2. Artist Statement (200 words or less).
  3. Artist Bio (200 words or less).
  4. 12 digital images of your work, including a list of images with:
    • Title
    • Media
    • Dimensions
    • Date
    • Your name
  5. Cover Letter (300 words or less) that includes:
    • A brief description of your work.
    • Specific circumstances you'd like considered.
    • Reasons for applying, goals for the residency, and how you can contribute to the island arts community.
    • The specific residency you are applying for and your preferred dates.
    • For 1-week summer residencies: Include a brief workshop proposal, duration, and teaching fee (workshops typically run Tuesday-Thursday, 3 to 8 hours).
  6. References:
    • Email and phone contacts for 3 references.
    • Describe their relationship to you (e.g., employer, teacher, gallerist, mentor).
    • References should be current or recent (within 5 years).
