🎁 Benefits of Sanctuary Scholarships
The Sanctuary Scholarships for 2025 include:
- 5 fully-funded scholarships covering the cost of tuition.
- A £10,300 annual award to support living costs for each year of study.
✅ Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- You have been granted humanitarian protection or limited leave to remain in the UK, or you are a dependant/partner of someone with such status.
- You or your parent/guardian/partner are an asylum seeker who has submitted a claim for refugee status in the UK and is awaiting a decision from the Home Office.
- You applied for asylum upon arrival in the UK, prior to applying for a place at the university.
- You currently attend a school, college, or community/voluntary group that can provide a reference to support your application.
- You hold an offer from the University of Sheffield to study an undergraduate or postgraduate taught course starting in September 2025.
- If your offer includes a foundation or conversion course, contact the university to discuss eligibility.
- You do not hold a qualification equal to or higher than the one you are applying for.
- If you have withdrawn from a previous course, contact the Student Fees and Funding Team for clarification.
- You are ineligible for other University scholarships, such as the Experience Sheffield Scholarship, Sheffield Postgraduate Scholarship, or a University bursary for undergraduate studies.
- You are not eligible to receive support from a UK funding agency, such as Student Finance England.
❌ Ineligibility Criteria
You are not eligible to apply if:
- You are eligible for support from a UK funding agency (e.g., Student Finance England).
- You have exhausted all appeal rights and have not submitted a fresh claim for asylum or an application to remain in the UK under another immigration category.
- If your status changes during the application process, you must notify the university immediately.
- You have a ‘no study’ immigration bail condition or a ‘restricted study’ condition that prohibits study in higher education.

- Hold an offer for an eligible course starting at the University in September 2025.
- Use your MUSE for offer holders login.
