Princeton in Africa (PiAf) is a non-profit organization that offers year-long paid post-graduate fellowship opportunities with a variety of organizations working across the African continent. Fellowships are open to graduates of US-accredited colleges and universities as well as colleges and universities based on the African continent through the Nexus program.

🎁 Benefits of Princeton in Africa Nexus Program

The Princeton in Africa experience is an investment on the part of each Fellow, each fellowship organization, and Princeton in Africa. The following funding arrangements are in place:

Fellows Cover:

  • $350 program placement fee upon acceptance of a post.
  • Round-trip airfare to and from the host country.
  • Pre-departure medical expenses, including immunizations, malaria prevention meds, personal medications, and medical release form completion.
  • Depending on the post, Fellows may contribute to visa or work permit costs.

✅ Princeton in Africa Nexus Program Requirements

To be eligible for the 2026–27 Princeton in Africa Fellowship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be young professionals or current undergraduates graduating by June 2026.
  • Hold a bachelor’s, master’s, or Ph.D. from a 4-year U.S.-accredited university.
  • Have full professional proficiency in English (speaking, reading, and writing) as defined by the CEFR (Level C1 and above).
    • Professional proficiency in French is preferred for some posts.
  • Be no older than 35 years of age for the duration of the fellowship year (born on or after September 1, 1991).
  • Hold a passport valid through August 2027.

📝 Application Date and Process

To apply, complete all sections of the online application. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Additional details can be found in the FAQs page.

Required for All Applicants:

  1. Online application questionnaires.
  2. Resume or CV:
    • Maximum 2 pages with font size 10 or higher.
    • Must be in PDF format.
  3. Official Transcripts:
    • Must be sent directly from your university to piafapp@princetoninafrica.org via a secure online platform or official university email.
    • Transcripts must be in English (or include an English translation).
  4. One Letter of Recommendation:
    • Submitted directly by your recommender via an online form.

Additional Requirement for Nexus Applicants Only:

  • Proof of University Enrollment:
    Document(s) must be in English and in PDF format. PiAf will accept any ONE of the following:
    • Official enrollment verification (with English translation, if needed).
    • Scanned copy of diploma (with English translation, if needed).
    • Letter on university letterhead (in English) signed by a university administrator or professor that includes:
      • Dates of enrollment.
      • Degree obtained.
      • Area of study.
      • University representative’s email and phone number.
