• 12–24 months, counted in full-month units, with continuous residence in Japan.

• Monthly maintenance allowance: JPY 362,000

• Overseas travel insurance

Research Support

• Host researchers may apply for Grant-in-Aid for JSPS Research Fellows to cover cooperative research expenses.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

Candidate Requirements

• Citizenship: Must be a citizen of a country with diplomatic relations with Japan, including Taiwanese and Palestinian researchers as treated by JSPS.
• Must also possess Swedish citizenship or permanent residency.
• Doctoral degree: Earned within six years of the fellowship start date (extensions allowed for parental leave).
• Cannot have previously held certain JSPS fellowships.
• Individuals with Japanese citizenship or permanent residency are ineligible.

📝 Application Process

1. Initial Contact: Candidate contacts a prospective host in Japan.
2. Application Submission: Submit the application to the JSPS Stockholm Office.
3. Evaluation: Scientific assessment by the nominating authority, followed by forwarding to the JSPS Head Office for final selection.
4. Notification: Successful candidates are informed approximately three months after nomination.
