đź“– About the Scholarship

The Pauline Bakibinga Memorial Scholarship was established in September 2022 to honor the memory of Dr. Pauline Bakibinga, a former researcher at the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC). Dr. Bakibinga was passionate about digital health and its potential to transform health systems in Africa. Despite her busy schedule as a research scientist, she dedicated time to mentor young women interested in improving the health outcomes of women and children.

  • Each year, between USD 5,000 and 10,000 worth of scholarship funding is awarded to a promising female student who resides in East Africa and is registered at an African University.
  • The funding supports research project costs (not tuition) towards a master’s degree program focusing on digital health.
  • A maximum of USD 10,000 will be awarded each year between 2024 and 2028.

âś… Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must:

  • Hold an undergraduate degree.
  • Have received admission for a master’s degree program focusing on the broad area of public health.
  • Have an approved research topic that embraces the application of digital health innovations.
    • It will be an added advantage to have IRB approval or provide proof of submission.

Additional Notes:

  • Applicants from Mbarara University of Science and Technology and those affiliated with Busoga Health Forum are encouraged to apply.
  • Recipients of the scholarship are expected to uphold a high standard of professional conduct.
  • This scholarship does not bind the recipient to APHRC or their current employer and does not require repayment. However, recipients are encouraged to honor Pauline’s memory by supporting similar causes and giving back to the community.

📝 Application Process

The application process consists of two steps:

Step 1: Complete the Online Survey

  • Access the survey here.

Step 2: Submit Required Documents

Prepare and send one PDF file containing the following:

  1. An essay (maximum 500 words) demonstrating your motivation.
  2. Two letters of recommendation (each 1-page max, one of which must be from an academic supervisor).
  3. Academic certificates.
  4. Proof of admission into a master’s degree program.
  • Send the PDF via email to pbscholarships@aphrc.org with the name of the scholarship in the subject line.
  • Important: Complete the online survey before sending the PDF.
