The Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIAS-KNAW) is currently accepting applications for its Individual Fellowships 2026. Scholars interested in conducting independent research in the humanities and social sciences are encouraged to apply.
π About NIAS-KNAW Individual Fellowships
NIAS offers individual fellowships to scholars who wish to carry out independent research in the humanities and social sciences. Scholars are provided with five or ten months of time and space to work on their own research projects as part of an interdisciplinary community.

β Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the NIAS-KNAW Individual Fellowships, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Scholars from both the Netherlands and abroad are eligible.
- Applicants must have at least three years of academic experience since obtaining their PhD.
- The project proposal should be related to the fields of Humanities and Social Sciences.
- Scholars who do not hold a permanent position at a university or research institute are also eligible.
- The working language at NIAS is English, and applicants must have a strong command of the language to contribute fully to the fellows' group and benefit from feedback on their own research.
