🏫 About Columbia University Maria Moors Cabot Prizes

The Maria Moors Cabot Prizes are the oldest international awards in journalism, established in 1938 by Godfrey Lowell Cabot of Boston as a memorial to his wife. These prestigious prizes recognize journalists and news organizations with a distinguished body of work that has contributed to Inter-American understanding.

• Honorees are announced in the summer.
• Recipients will receive:
  • A Cabot medal.
  • A $5,000 honorarium.
• Special citations may also be awarded.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

The following individuals and organizations are eligible for the prizes:

• Journalists and/or news executives working for any news organization based in the Western Hemisphere or any press association/news service serving such organizations.
• Freelance journalists with a long record of reporting on the region.
• All media platforms, including online publications.

📅 Application Date and Process

Required Documents:

Applicants must upload the following items and provide working links for digital presentations:

1. Nominee’s biography and/or CV listing education, journalistic experience, and public service, with dates.
2. A statement or nomination letter describing how the nominee has contributed towards international understanding in the Western Hemisphere.
3. Career highlights and examples of work:
   • At least five but no more than ten print articles, books, television/radio programs, or online stories that best represent the nominee’s career or body of work.
   • Curate stories or reporting that show strengths over time.
4. Working direct links to any media.
5. Self-nominations are allowed.
6. Nominations must be signed by the person submitting them.
7. One to three letters from third parties explaining why the nominee is especially deserving of the prize are welcome. Supporting materials such as books will not be returned.
