Opportunity Overview

πŸ“– About the Malaria Modelling Fellowship

The Malaria Modelling Fellowship (MMF) is an initiative aimed at building the mathematical modelling capacity of public health professionals in Nigeria. This partially funded fellowship is designed to integrate with participants' routine work while equipping them with in-demand skills to inform malaria and infectious disease control both locally and globally.

Mathematical modelling is a critical tool in infectious disease control, helping researchers understand disease propagation and evaluate the impact of various prevention strategies. The fellowship provides a comprehensive curriculum, including:

  • Core modelling content
  • In-depth knowledge of malaria epidemiology and transmission dynamics
  • Adjunct modules to enhance participants' careers

The fellowship is funded by the Gates Foundation and is a collaborative effort between Corona Management Systems (CMS), the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP), the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Objectives of the Fellowship:

  • Increase the number of doctoral and post-doctoral-level trained mathematical modelers with malaria expertise in Nigerian institutions.
  • Enhance the capacity of the National Malaria Elimination Program (NMEP) to use modelling approaches for strategic planning and evaluation.
  • Strengthen the capacity of the Nigeria Field Epidemiology Training Program (NFETP) to provide modelling fellowships.

🎁 Benefits of the Fellowship

  • Tuition and refreshments during in-person training sessions are covered.
  • Fellows or their organizations are responsible for:
    • Travel
    • Accommodation
    • Other personal expenses

Applicants are encouraged to obtain sponsorship letters from their institutions to ensure full participation.
