The Arts Research Programme, re-launched in 2025, recognizes the value of different and flexible approaches to research in the arts. Under this programme, projects explore forms of knowing and thinking rooted in creative, scholarly, and cultural practices. These projects aim to bring diverse perspectives on histories and expressions of artistic practice in India, fostering a deeper understanding of the arts through enquiry, interaction, reflection, and experimentation.

πŸ’° Benefits of IFA Arts Research Programme

  • You can budget up to Rs 5,00,000/-.
  • An honorarium can be requested, not exceeding 35% of the proposed budget.
  • Note: Institutional overheads, building costs, infrastructural development, and equipment purchases are not allowed. However, if equipment is purchased for the project, it must be returned to IFA after project completion.

βœ… Eligibility Criteria

  • Only Indian nationals can apply (PIO and OCI cardholders are not eligible).
  • Applicants must have a PAN card and one of the following for proof of identity and citizenship:
    • Indian Passport
    • Aadhar Card
    • Voter’s ID in India
  • Only individuals can apply (organizations are not eligible, except non-profit schools under the Arts-Integrated Projects in Schools category of the Arts Education programme).
  • Collaborators in the projects must also be Indian nationals.
  • Persons with a past history of financial delinquency with IFA are not eligible.
  • Persons who have failed to deposit agreed deliverables from an earlier IFA grant are not eligible.
  • Persons who have received a letter from IFA disallowing them from applying in the future are not eligible.
  • Persons currently working on a project implemented by IFA are not eligible to apply.
  • More than one individual can apply if they have a joint account. If not, only one among them should apply, with others as collaborators.

  1. Pre-Proposal Queries:

    • Applicants are encouraged to discuss queries regarding the Request for Proposals and develop project ideas before submitting the final proposal.
    • Write to Harshita Bathwal, Programme Officer, Arts Research, at harshita@indiaifa.org before Monday, August 11, 2025, with the subject line: "Project Proposal for Arts Research."
  2. Proposal Submission:

    • Proposals can be written in any Indian language, including English.
    • The proposed project should clearly outline:
      • Research questions
      • Proposed objectives
      • Personal motivation
      • Stakeholders involved
    • Projects should aim for outcomes or processes that can be shared in the public domain, engaging a broad and diverse audience.
  3. Final Submission:

    • Submit the final proposal, along with:
      • Curriculum vitae
      • Detailed budget breakdown explaining fund utilization
    • Send all documents in a single email (not exceeding 25 MB) to harshita@indiaifa.org on or before September 10, 2025, 11:59 PM (IST).
