ICTP TRIL Fellowship Programme 2026
The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) is currently accepting applications for its Training and Research in Italian Laboratories (TRIL) Fellowship Programme 2026.
📖 About ICTP TRIL Fellowship Programme
The TRIL Programme offers scientists from developing countries the opportunity to undertake training and research in Italian laboratories across various branches of the physical sciences.
Objectives:
- Promote collaborations between the Italian scientific community and individuals, groups, and institutions in developing countries.
- Strengthen scientific expertise in developing countries, addressing local needs and resources.
- Support sustainable capacity in basic and applied research to aid national progress.
🎁 Benefits of ICTP TRIL Fellowship Programme
A limited number of fellowships are fully funded by the TRIL Programme. Fellowships are expected to be jointly funded by the hosting laboratory.
Financial Support:
- €1,300 for students pursuing a Ph.D. (or equivalent).
- €1,500 for scientists with a Ph.D. degree less than 5 years old.
- €1,600 for scientists with a Ph.D. degree more than 5 years old.
Note: In exceptional cases, the monthly grant may differ from the above scheme.
Additional Benefits:
- Prepaid travel ticket for eligible fellows (no travel contribution for accompanying family members).
- Free health insurance coverage for fellows without worldwide valid medical insurance.
- Laboratory space and facilities provided by the host institution.
- Assistance in finding accommodation by the host laboratory.
Important: In case of early termination of the fellowship, payments made after the termination date must be returned to ICTP.
✅ Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for the fellowship:
- Be a national of a developing country.
- Hold at least a university Master's Degree.
- Be proficient in English (may require an English proficiency certificate or TOEFL).
- Reside in a developing country (studying or working) at the time of selection.
Additional Notes:
- Individuals from developed countries are not eligible.
- Preference will be given to young talented scientists with research experience and published papers.
- Female candidates and applicants from least developed countries (LDCs) will receive priority attention.
- Applications from senior scientists are also welcome.
- Former TRIL fellows may reapply only if their previous award (including extensions) did not exceed 24 months.
- Applications that do not meet all eligibility requirements will not be considered.
📝 Application Process
Before filling out the TRIL online application form, applicants should:
- Prepare their Curriculum Vitae in PDF format.
- Prepare a complete list of publications (including books and articles) in anti-chronological order in PDF format. The list should include:
- Titles of papers and journals where they are published.
- Separate lists for peer-reviewed (ISI) journals and non-ISI journals.
- Mention unpublished works under a different heading.
