The Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study (SCAS) is now accepting applications for the Barbro Klein Fellowship Programme 2026. This prestigious fellowship aims to advance the study of cultural diversity from a global perspective.
📖 About the Fellowship
The Barbro Klein Residential Fellowship Programme is designed to promote research on cultural and social diversity, cultural heritage, creativity, societal structures, public resistance, and various cultural expressions in both local and global contexts. Scholars from across disciplines in the humanities and social sciences are encouraged to apply.
🎁 Benefits of the Fellowship
- Monthly Salary: Fellows typically receive a monthly salary. However, the Collegium does not match fellows’ salaries at their home university/institute. Fellows are encouraged to seek additional funding, such as sabbatical salaries or grants.
- Accommodation:
- For fellows residing outside the Stockholm–Uppsala region, SCAS provides and covers the cost of accommodation.
- When possible, accommodation is also offered to fellows from Stockholm who cannot commute.
✅ Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Barbro Klein Fellowship Programme, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Research Focus: The fellowship supports research on cultural diversity, cultural heritage, societal structures, public resistance, and cultural expressions in a global perspective.
- Target Audience: Applications are encouraged, but not limited to:
- Talented younger scholars from non-Western countries.
- Scholars of underrepresented gender.
- Academic Qualifications:
- Applicants must have held a PhD (or equivalent doctoral degree) for at least three years at the time of application.
- A promising track record of independent achievements beyond the post-doctoral level, including significant publications.
- Active participation in international academic fora.
- University Position: Candidates are not required to hold a university position at the time of application.
📝 Application Process
Applications must be submitted through the Varbi application system. The following documents are required (in PDF format):
- Curriculum Vitae (maximum 4 pages).
- Research Project Description (maximum 1500 words, excluding bibliography if applicable).
- List of Major Publications: Up to 10 articles in international peer-reviewed journals and/or major research monographs or edited volumes.
- Sample Article: One article (or book chapter) representing your scholarship, written in English. This does not need to be related to your proposed research project.
- Motivational Statements:
- Why you wish to be at SCAS (maximum 100 words).
- How you would benefit from a stay at SCAS (maximum 100 words).
- How you would contribute to the academic and social environment at SCAS (maximum 100 words).
- PhD Diploma: A copy of your doctoral degree certificate.
- Optional: Up to 3 letters of reference. Note:
- Letters must be uploaded by the candidate by the application deadline.
- Referees cannot upload references directly or send them to SCAS.
Once your application is submitted, you will receive a confirmation email from the Varbi online application system.
