✅ Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for this funding, applicants must meet the following requirements:

Residency

• Must be a resident of Alberta:
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or Protected Person with a valid permit.
  • Primary residence in Alberta for at least one year before applying.
  • Must ordinarily live in Alberta for at least six months per year (exceptions apply for formal study).

Standing with AFA

• Applicants must be in good standing with AFA (no outstanding projects or reports).

Ensembles/Collectives

• Ensembles or collectives can apply if all project co-owners meet eligibility.
• Co-owners may include visual artists, curators, directors, composers, or writers with ownership/copyright or financial stake.
• Contributors like studio assistants or technicians are not normally considered co-owners.

• Applications are assessed on a project-by-project basis.

Expert Panel Review

• Evaluates:
  • Project merit, impact, artistic and educational value.
  • Budget appropriateness.
  • Applicant’s ability to execute the project.

Evaluation Criteria

• Personal objectives and potential impact.

AFA Board Review

• Panel recommendations are reviewed by the board; funding is not guaranteed.
