💰 Benefits of AFA Artists and Education Funding

  • Maximum Funding: Up to $15,000 per residency project.
  • Funding Coverage:
    • Schools from select jurisdictions: Up to 50% of the artist’s fee.
    • Other jurisdictions: Up to 75% of the artist’s fee.
  • Eligible Expenses:
    • Artist fees, including travel, accommodation, and meals.
    • Non-reusable materials directly tied to residency activities.
  • Ineligible Expenses:
    • Projects started before application submission.
    • Applied arts or commercial activities.
    • Competitive performances or social events.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be Alberta schools or school jurisdictions recognized by Alberta Education, serving students from Kindergarten to Grade 12.
  • Schools must be in good standing with AFA, with no outstanding reporting or open projects.
  • Collaborations between schools are allowed if population, location, or other conditions justify partnerships.
  • Only one application per school per deadline is permitted.

📝 Application Date and Process

  1. GATE Front Office Submission:

    • Applications must be submitted electronically before the project begins.
    • Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
  2. Required Attachments:

    • Artist Fee Confirmation Form signed by both the school and the artist.
    • Artist or company resume highlighting professional background and residency experience.
    • Project description collaboratively developed, including:
      • School profile.
      • Student involvement and grade levels.
      • Residency schedule and duration.
      • Teacher in-service plans.
      • Curriculum links.
      • Expected benefits for students, teachers, or the community.
  3. Optional/Additional Materials:

    • Additional information may be requested during the review process.
  4. File Requirements:

    • Ensure audio/video files are Windows-compatible.
    • All documents must be in PDF format.
