Maximum Funding

Eligible Expenses Include:
- Contracted artist or commission fees.

- Accommodation and transportation.
- Tuition, training, workshops, retreats, and mentorship.
- Royalties and administration.
- Limited living costs (up to $3,000 per month).
Ineligible Expenses:
- Capital purchases.
- Recreational training or academic credit projects.
- Primarily commercial projects.
- Ongoing obligations similar to existing work.
- Costs incurred before the application.
✅ AFA Theatre Individual Project Funding Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be Alberta residents for at least one year and ordinarily reside in Alberta for six months annually (excluding study-related absences).
- Hold Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or Protected Person status.
- Be in good standing with the AFA and not be incorporated.
- Ensure co-owners meet the same eligibility criteria. Co-owners include directors, playwrights, choreographers, lyricists, composers, or those with a financial stake in the project.
- Designate a lead applicant to submit the application and manage funding and reporting responsibilities.

- Create or access a GATE Front Office account.
- Complete the online application form, including:
- Applicant and co-owner details.
- Contact and address information.
- Project category confirmation and description.
- Project dates.
- Applicant agreement.
- Provide a detailed budget outlining expenses and revenues.
- Attach supporting materials based on project type:
- Artistic résumés.
- Detailed project descriptions.
- Samples of previous work.
- Training program materials or marketing plans.
- Commission contracts or additional support materials.
- Indigenous applicants may submit oral project descriptions (up to 3 minutes).
- Submit the complete application before the deadline. Only one application per deadline is permitted. Duplicate submissions for the same project are prohibited.
