The Äänit Prize is designed to empower alumni of the Mandela Rhodes Scholarship and the Rhodes Scholarship who are working on impactful initiatives. The competition aims to support projects that address critical social challenges in Africa.

✅ Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Äänit Prize, applicants must meet the following requirements:

Alumni Status:
- Must be a Mandela Rhodes Alumni (any year from 2005 onwards) or a Rhodes Scholar Alumni (from 2005 onwards).

Demonstrable Impact:
- Applicants must demonstrate that their initiative contributes (or will contribute) to impactful areas in Africa.

Founder-Level Involvement:
- Applicants must be founders, co-founders, or members of the executive team of the business or organization they are entering.

Any Model and Stage:
- Both Non-Profit and For-Profit initiatives are eligible.
- Initiatives at different stages of development can apply.

Commitment:
- Successful candidates must remain actively involved in their projects for two years from the time of the award.
📅 Application Date and Process
The application process consists of six steps:
Step 1: Indicate Interest (20 May 2026 – 17 June 2026)
Submit a short motivation explaining:
- Why your project, business, or idea is socially impactful.
- How you plan to realize it.
- Why you or your team are the ideal candidates to make it happen.
Step 2: Wait to Be Invited to Apply
- The foundation will review all indications of interest.
- Candidates will be notified if they are invited to submit a full application or if they are not successful.
Step 3: Submit Your Application (1 July 2026 – 21 July 2026)
- Submit a written project statement, a project/business plan (maximum 12 pages), and relevant supporting documents.
- Applications will be evaluated by reviewers with relevant expertise.
Step 4: Prepare to Pitch
- Longlisted candidates will be invited to an interview during the week of 17 August 2026.
- The interview will include a short pitch based on the value proposition of the written application.
Step 5: Iterate and Improve
- Final-round candidates will receive written feedback.
- Candidates will have 48 hours to improve their proposals and submit a two-minute pitch.
Step 6: Winners Decided
- Shortlisted applications will be reviewed by an external, independent panel of judges.
- The judges will decide the number of winners and how to allocate the prize money.
