Abstract
The Agile software development (SD) framework's widespread adoption is undeniable, yet many early adopters failed to implement it effectively. While some researchers proposed adaptation frameworks, they lacked clarity in their development and the correlation between these frameworks and problem-solving remained dubious. This study reviews literature and empirical studies on Agile SD implementation failures, revisiting supporting frameworks for understanding these issues. A comparative approach across ProQuest, EBSCO, IEEE, and Scopus databases revealed that only 4 out of 87 initially selected papers focused on knowledge management and used learning processes as a framework for Agile SD implementation. However, they lacked clarity in explaining the framework's development. The authors' initial research on a corporation revealed Agile SD implementation failures. The study proposes Soft Systems Methodology (SSM)-based action research (AR) to identify the root issues and provide a solution. SSM-based AR clarifies framework development using tacit and explicit knowledge to validate the process, helping practitioners and academics understand Agile SD implementation challenges.
