This paper provides a comprehensive overview of ocean multi-use research, analyzing its origins, trajectory, and driving forces. It uses the Bibliometrix R package to examine the social, geographical, and conceptual dimensions of multi-use scientific production, comparing findings to research on multiple-use Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and Marine Spatial Planning (MSP). The paper identifies research gaps, emphasizing the need for transdisciplinarity in translating this marine policy concept into practical implementation and extending its application beyond European seas.
