This paper discusses the results of a research prioritisation process carried out to enhance capacity, mutual understanding, and impact amongst European social sciences and humanities researchers concerning the shift away from animal-based food systems. The process yielded 15 research questions classified under five themes: debating and visioning food from animals; transforming agricultural spaces; framing animals as food; eating practices and identities; and governing transitions beyond animal-based food systems. These themes provide a framework for connecting research questions and suggest loci for future transdisciplinary research programs.
