Treatment of old landfill leachate with high ammonium content using aerobic granular sludge

In an innovative study by Yanan Ren, Fernanda Ferraz, Abbass Jafari Kang, and Qiuyan Yuan, the efficacy of aerobic sequencing batch reactors (ASBR and GSBR) in treating old landfill leachate with varying ammonium levels was explored. The findings reveal that granular sludge outperformed activated sludge, achieving impressive nutrient removal rates while addressing challenges like free-ammonia inhibition.
