Abstract

This study analyzes the portrayal of a sexually harassed woman in two English translations of Khadija Mastoor's Urdu novel, *Aangan*. It investigates how translators' perspectives influence the representation of sexual harassment and the female protagonist's identity. Using a parallel corpus and NLTK for frequency and concordance analysis, the study employs Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) and feminist translation theory. The findings reveal that one translator (Rockwell) sensitively handles the issue, magnifying the harassment, while the other (Hussain) shows tolerance and romanticizes it, sometimes de-emphasizing the harassment. Different translation strategies, reflecting the translators' subjectivities and potentially influenced by cultural and temporal factors, are identified and discussed.
