Towards Ideal Understanding

What does it take to understand a phenomenon to the highest conceivable extent? This paper argues for five necessary conditions for ideal understanding—sufficient representational accuracy, intelligibility, sufficient truth, reasonable endorsement, and fit—and contends that grasping, novel predictions, and transparency are not reasonable requirements.
