Abstract
This paper investigates *chengshi kaihuang* (CK), an informal practice of urban agriculture in China, as an example of bottom-up ruralizing agency within rapid urbanization. Using remote sensing and social media data, the study examines the spatial impact of CK on Wuhan, a megacity. Findings reveal widespread CK occurrences across China, demonstrating its potential for large-scale impact on the urban environment and challenging existing understandings of rural-urban dynamics.
