This paper critically reviews the relationship between criminology and criminal law, tracing their historical development in China and the West. It clarifies the distinctions and overlaps between the two disciplines and explains how this relationship has influenced the growth of criminology in China. The paper concludes by proposing implications for developing criminology in China, particularly focusing on potential collaborations between criminology and criminal law and their mutual benefits.
