Abstract
This study investigates the temporal and geographical variations in tornado occurrences in the United States from 1960 to 2022. It finds significant long-term decreases in tornado days from June through August, primarily in the Southern Great Plains, contrasting with increases in tornado outbreak days, particularly in the Southeast and during both warm and cool seasons. Recent trends show a relaxation of these opposing patterns. The research highlights the need for further investigation into the roles of internal climate variability and anthropogenic forcing.
