This study investigates the influence of Arabic dialects, specifically Najdi (with nunation) and Hijazi (without nunation), on the acquisition of English definite articles. It examines whether the presence of nunation, a phonologically overt indefinite marker in Najdi, affects the use of English articles by comparing the performance of Najdi and Hijazi speakers. The results reveal that while both groups demonstrate similar overall accuracy in using "the", their errors differ, suggesting that the presence of nunation in the L1 influences L2 article usage.
