Abstract

This study investigates the impact of gender diversity on scientific research teams using relational data from 12 interdisciplinary university teams. While prior research suggests a positive correlation between women's presence and team success, this study employs social network analysis to examine team interactions. Contrary to expectations, the findings reveal that team norms, rather than gender, primarily shape interactions. The study discusses the possibility of creating ingroups that include women, potentially challenging existing gendered patterns in academia and highlighting the potential of team science to foster more equitable environments.
