Abstract
This study investigated the antimicrobial and anti-biofilm activity of three chlorine-based disinfectants (hypochlorite ions [OCl⁻], hypochlorous acid [HOCl], and electrochemically activated solutions [ECAS]) for point-of-use (POU) drinking water applications. HOCl showed the greatest antimicrobial activity against planktonic *E. coli*, while ECAS demonstrated significantly greater anti-biofilm activity against *P. aeruginosa* biofilms. Disinfectants where HOCl is the dominant species (HOCl and ECAS) are suggested as suitable alternatives for POU drinking water.
