Abstract

This paper reports the discovery of skeletal remains from Borneo indicating a successful limb amputation performed during childhood, approximately 31,000 years ago. This finding challenges the prevailing view that complex surgical procedures emerged only with settled agricultural societies, suggesting sophisticated medical knowledge existed among foraging populations in tropical Asia before the Neolithic Revolution.
