This paper investigates the applications of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and their contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It explores various solar PV technologies, including their generations and applications in large-scale power plants, residential settings, green hydrogen production, water desalination, and transportation. A bibliometric analysis of 126,513 papers published between 2011 and 2021 reveals that 72% are related to SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), highlighting a research gap in solar energy's contribution to other SDGs, particularly SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequality), and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions). The paper concludes that further research is necessary to fully realize solar PV's potential for sustainable development.
