Abstract
This study focuses on soft skills – over-professional competencies assessed alongside professional competencies, including for employment. At ITMO University these skills are taught as a separate block of compulsory elective subjects. The aim was to determine whether teaching soft skills meets employers’ requirements. The study comprised an analysis of vacancies on a popular job platform, followed by surveys and interviews of students and employers. A large-scale examination of graduates’ experiences and the labor market in Russia and specifically the Northwestern Federal District was conducted. Results from all phases were used to inform conclusions and applications. Overall, the trajectory of learning and development of soft skills in students should be supported, and future employers value this experience in practice.
