Abstract

This study investigates gender disparities in scientific authorship before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Analyzing 119,592 manuscripts from the Institute of Physics (IOP) portfolio, the researchers found that men overwhelmingly dominated authorship across all countries, journals, and disciplines. While women's contribution slightly increased during the pandemic, the pre-existing gender imbalance persisted. The study highlights the need for further research into the pandemic's impact on other aspects of scientific productivity and the underlying gender disparities.
