Abstract
New precisely dated stalagmite data from NW Iberia reveal the penultimate deglaciation initiated with rapid century-scale meltwater pulses, triggering abrupt coolings consistent with freshwater-induced AMOC slowdowns. The more rapid and sustained freshening in the eastern North Atlantic during the penultimate deglaciation likely reflects a larger volume of ice stored in the marine-based Eurasian Ice sheet compared to the last glacial's land-based North American ice sheet.
