Poverty-alleviation communication practices of the Jerusalem Children and Community Development Organization (JeCCDO) in Negede Woito community, Bahir Dar, Ethiopia

This paper investigates the communication practices of the Jerusalem Children and Community Development Organization (JeCCDO) in its poverty alleviation programs within the Negede Woito community of Bahir Dar, Ethiopia. Employing a qualitative methodology, the study examines JeCCDO's approach and the challenges faced by both the organization and the community. While JeCCDO utilizes a social enterprise development model and participatory communication approach, the study reveals inconsistencies in their practical application. Endogenous knowledge and grassroots communication, crucial for effective community development, were largely absent in the planning, implementation, and evaluation phases. The study concludes that NGOs and development workers should critically re-evaluate their communication strategies for enhanced effectiveness in poverty alleviation programs.
