A review of reviews found that higher physical activity is linked to lower incidence of depression (adjusted RR=0.83, 95% CI 0.76–0.90) and anxiety (adjusted OR=0.74, 95% CI 0.62–0.88). Based on observational evidence and Bradford Hill criteria, physical activity was assessed as probably causally related to reduced risk of depression and anxiety.
