Abstract
This paper investigates palatalization in the Laomian language, comparing its bilabial, velar, and coronal consonants with counterparts in related languages. A phonological analysis of palatalization's evolution in Laomian is presented using feature geometry, nonlinear phonology, and Optimality Theory. The study reveals distinct evolutionary patterns for different consonant types and the persistence of dual pronunciations in some words, reflecting different evolutionary stages.
