Abstract
This case report details the first documented instance of SARS-CoV-2 infection in a dog in Botswana. A 5-year-old male crossbreed dog exhibiting flu-like symptoms tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. Next-generation sequencing revealed a near-full-length SARS-CoV-2 genome (∼90% coverage) classified as a sublineage of the Delta variant. Phylogenetic analysis showed a close relationship to human Delta variant sequences circulating concurrently. The study highlights the need for monitoring pets during COVID-19 outbreaks.
