Molecular dynamics study of differential effects of serotonin-2A-receptor (5-HT2A) modulators

The serotonin-2A receptor's activation can relieve depression yet provoke hallucinations. Using multiple atomistic molecular dynamics simulations of 5-HT2A R bound to antipsychotics, non-hallucinogens and hallucinogens, the authors show modest receptor activation may produce antidepressant effects while excessive activation causes hallucinations.
