Abstract
This theoretical review explores the role of music in romantic relationships, examining its influence on mate choice and social bonding. It proposes two distinct musical functions: music for attraction (virtuosic displays of fitness) and music for connection (facilitating synchrony and intimacy). A model is presented outlining how music enhances the components of love (passion, intimacy, commitment) across relationship stages (attraction, formation, maintenance). The review synthesizes existing literature and suggests avenues for future empirical research.
