Abstract
This paper investigates the long-term persistence of the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA), a region of anomalously weak magnetic field. By combining paleomagnetic data from Trindade Island with an analysis of paleosecular variation (PSV) over the past 10 million years, and using synthetic models, the study reveals enduring anomalous field signatures in the South Atlantic and Atlantic-Pacific hemispheric asymmetries. These features are likely linked to a bottom-up control of PSV by the inner core's heterogeneities, with contributions from mantle anomalies over longer timescales.
