This paper reports a direct synthesis of acetic acid (CH3COOH) solely from methane (CH4) via photochemical conversion without additional reagents. This is achieved using a PdO/Pd-WO3 heterointerface nanocomposite, where CH4 is dissociated into methyl groups on Pd sites, and oxygen from PdO facilitates carbonyl formation. The methyl and carbonyl groups undergo a cascade reaction to generate an acetyl precursor, subsequently converting to CH3COOH. A production rate of 1.5 mmol gpd⁻¹ h⁻¹ and selectivity of 91.6% toward CH3COOH were achieved in a photochemical flow reactor.
