Abstract
This paper addresses the challenges posed by misinformation and disinformation, rebutting claims that misinformation research aims to censor conservative voices or is of limited utility. The authors argue that disinformation demonstrably harms society and that it is distinguishable from good-faith disagreements. They propose empirically validated methods for mitigating misinformation and disinformation without resorting to censorship.
